In “The Young and the Restless,” Abby Newman, being born into both the Abbott and Newman families, holds a significant legacy due to her parents, Victor Newman and Ashley Abbott.
This background sets her up as a character with potential influence and importance within the series’ universe.
However, despite her lineage, it appears that the show’s writers have chosen a different narrative path for her.
Instead of positioning Abby as a central figure, she is portrayed more as an outsider or the black sheep within both her families.
This creative choice contrasts with her inherent potential to be a prominent member, affecting her involvement in key storylines and family dynamics.
This development raises questions about the direction of her character and the implications it has on the overall family saga in the series.
Abby excluded from family discussions
The Abbotts and Newmans always have their share of turmoil. Whenever a problem aroses, everything gathers either at the Abbott mansion or Newman ranch to discuss their plan of action.
There’s been a lot happening with the Newmans regarding Jordan and Claire. Victor feared that Jordan was a threat to his family’s safety. Yet, he failed to clue one person in on the situaion, Abby.
But the exclusion doesn’t stop with the Newmans.
Abby’s mother Ashley is going through a difficult time because of her mental health issues. The Abbotts held an intervention to help Ashley, yet Abby was nowhere to be seen.
It’s unclear if Abby knows the details of her mother’s situation, but her exclusion isn’t sitting well with viewers.
On a Soap Central forum, The Young and the Restless fans expressed their confusion over Abby’s absence from her family’s turmoil.
One fan pointed out her exclusion from both families:
“They have isolated Abby from both families now. She has been the independent child of both families for a long time but ever since her surrogacy story I’ve noticed any conflict in her life there don’t seem to be anyone of either family involved or offering support. She is left to deal with issues on her own with support from friends but not family. Would love to know why this is the case.”
One commenter blamed the writers:
“JMO, but it seems that WHOMEVER is writing, lacks a working knowledge of familial relationships and functioning loyalty within those relationships.”
Another viewer thinks Abby should be involved with Ashley’s story:
“It is quite odd that Ashley’s one and only child has no idea what’s going on with her mother. Does she even know that Ashley’s in Paris? And I would think at least Traci would advocate for involving Abby.z’
Will Abby ever be included in her family’s storylines?
The only time Abby is featured on The Young and the Restless is when she’s with her boyfriend Devon Hamilton. She’s been involved in Devon’s drama with his family company Chancellor-Winters.
Yet, when it comes to her own family’s drama, she’s nowehre to be seen.
The writers’ treatment of Abby is horrendous. She needs to be part of her family’s drama, especially when it concerns Ashley.
She’s bound to find out soon about Ashley, and she’ll undoubtedly be upset she wasn’t included. The fallout from Ashley’s situation could lead to an estrangment between Abby and the rest of the Abbotts.
The Abbotts and Newmans are always preaching about the importance of family. Yet, their exclusion of Abby in important matters speaks volumes.
Abby feeling that she’s the black sheep could cut ties with both families, thus leading them to try to get back in her good graces.
