Ella Forster will return to the village in Emmerdale, the soap’s producer has confirmed, amid fears Paula Lane might not be back in the Dales
Ella Forster will return to Emmerdale – with a huge twist.
In a recent chat with The Mirror and other press, producer Sophie Roper confirmed that Paula Lane would be back playing Ella Forster soon after her killer secret was revealed and she scarpered from the village.
Speaking about Ella’s return to the show, she said: “We have the other storyline recently, which had a really huge twist that was quite unexpected, but really powerful. Ella will continue in the show, and her past will continue to haunt her.
“Her relationship with Liam will remain complicated, and we’ll continue to question – will she ever get a happily ever after? Can she ever really escape the past that’s led her to this point?”
There had been much speculation that Ella was somehow connected to Meena Jutla. However, Ella’s interest in Meena and Liam’s daughter – who was killed by the serial killer – was because she had killed someone herself when she was young.
Speaking about Ella’s feelings towards what happened in the past, Paula Lane – who plays Ella – said: “Ella is so ashamed of her past and she knows that as soon as she reveals all, she risks losing everything with Liam. Every time the truth has come out in the past, she has had to move on and start again, so it’s incredibly painful to share and know that there is no going back now.
“I guess she feels he deserves the truth especially with everything he went through with Leanna. It’s a heaviness she carries all the time in the back of her mind. Pretending to carry on as normal is a short term fix and behind closed doors the guilt is very real. Every birthday is a reminder of what happened and will never allow her to fully move on.”
Ella has got the support of Mandy, as well as a number of other residents including Cain, who heard her out when the revelation happened, with fans convinced it could lead to an affair between the pair.
She said: “In a conversation with Mandy, Ella says she always had to run when the truth has been exposed. I expect she’s experienced this reaction quite a few times and then has found herself living out of her car again. Mandy and Ella from day one found something in each other that just sparked. I think because the two have admitted they both have dark pasts and haven’t made the best choices in life, there is a real empathy there and protective nature for each other.”
